Etsy was included in Time Magazine's "50 Best Websites 2009". I read this as proof that the handmade revolution has gone mainstream. An Etsy artist, Alyssa Zygmunt, was even included in a video segment on Time's website. I've included both video and text below. You can click the box symbol to watch in full-screen mode, but I couldn't find the button to eliminate the leading advertisement:

Etsy is the long-haired, Birkenstocked love child of Amazon and eBay. It's a crafts-only marketplace oozing with personality — imagine if Martha Stewart were reincarnated as Ani DiFranco and you get the gist. It's the go-to site for handmade fashion, furniture, toys and housewares. Like with its corporate forebears, there are plenty of photographs, seller ratings and payment options — but it still feels intimate because Etsy sells labors of love from actual people.

Made for an Angel is thoroughly modern silver and stone jewelry with a touch of yesteryear.  Maybe the fact that it's created in an attic studio in Wexford County, Ireland, has something to do with its romantic old world quality.

nix creations fused glass pendants

Nix Creations designer Matthew Nix, in Collinsville, Illinois, started making jewelry by accident.  One thing led to another and he now finds himself making absolutely gorgeous fused glass and wrapped wire pendants.

Serio of Tees and Tats designs limited edition t-shirts with original designs that wrap around the body like a tattoo.  He works out of a gallery in Manhattan.

Jennifer Sharmaine Wilborn of Shardann designs sexy, funky, avant garde, but wearable, clothes and accessories that somehow combine high style with a friendly casual quality. 

zuzsi handmade sandals

Nick (a female) creates sandals inspired by a Tamahumara Indian tribe's footwear.
